As we celebrate 2018, all of us at the WSA can’t help but think back to the blessings so many have received through the hundreds of stories have been shared.  As we celebrate the past five years, storytelling and sharing stories of inspiration have been part of the Women Survivors Alliance mission. The WSA’s focus has been to give a stage and platform to the pain, the path and the inspiring triumphs of survivors.

Over the past six months, WSA Founder, Karen Shayne has been working with many partners on a new project that would combine the WSA’s current Ribbons of Support SURVIVORville and My 2nd Act: Survivor Stories from the Stage.  This project would redesign both events and expand them into multiple opportunities both with live events and online.  Today, thanks to our partnership with Ignyta, we are blessed and proud to announce to the WSA family a new and exciting new project called UNTOLD.

UNTOLD. is a global storytelling movement for the survivor community.  UNTOLD will use multiple platforms featuring photo/print/illustration/podcast/live events and an online streaming docu-series in partnership with Chicken Soup for the Soul to showcase the survivor journey on a global level. UNTOLD is designed to help, inspire, educate, heal and renew the survivors soul. This movement will unearth the hidden treasures of our shared paths, and change the face, support and reaction to any life challenging illness. Through the recited realities of untold stories, UNTOLD will unite the communities of patient, caregivers, co-survivors and the world to the needs and resources or lack of, to influence issues, policies and finances to support change.

Much like the project Humans of New York, UNTOLD will have a blog.  The blog is for mass-distribution of stories online to support those affected by this life-changing illness.  Keeping within the mission of the WSA, UNTOLD will support all cancers, all stages and all ages. Each story will become a beacon of hope through the insights and lessons learned by the author or artist and will expand upon the individual path of the journey, the communal experience of the outcome, wisdom in reflection, and resilience for those reading. The journeys offer choices well made, or new paths to be forged. The goal is for the survivor to find therapeutic release, with the writer owning the badge of mentorship and the voice given to their emotions and experience, and the reader owning the choices and strengths from those who have traveled before them along similar paths.

The UNTOLD Podcast will feature a vast cast of survivors/co-survivors, caretakers, medical and support teams telling true, engaging, educational and eye-opening stories of their journey via audio conversations.  Each episode is a program where raw and exposed stories are shared in a conversational setting.  The UNTOLD Podcast will build the audio connections to travel with people in their cars, flights and walks around the neighborhood, and offering partnerships where audio plays best. Each episode will offer insight into the patterns of life, and the need to understand, expand and explore ways through and around any challenges.

Also in development is the project UNTOLD: The Series.  This moving series will expand a collection of short backstories of survivors and co-survivors to a full production docu-series of the voices that create the survivorship movement.  These video gems unravel the truth about perseverance in the face of uncertainty as they enter survivorship and their choice to become change makers and empower others to travel through.  These documentaries are emotionally moving, even challenging at times to hear, but they are the faces behind the voices of strength.  The WSA is happy to announce UNTOLD: The Series will be created through our partnership with Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment and will be seen on various forms of media outlets as well as all CSS’s platforms, including APlus, owned by Actor Ashton Kutcher.

Finally, following the success of SURVIVORville and My 2nd Act, the WSA will culminate all these beautiful multi-dimensional stories with a LIVE production entitled UNTOLD LIVE!  Untold LIVE breaks through the traditional stage production of My 2nd Act and will offer a unique theatrical experience, engaging audiences in the unexpected blending of art, spoken word, poetry, music and heart provoking conversations. It’s a national touring event and will feature not just survivors, but also caregivers, well-known change makers, overcomers, artists, athletes, and guests. Each stage show will combine the threads of individual stories gifted to the hearts of every audience member. The UNTOLD. LIVE! stage event leaps into the outer boundaries of darkness and carefully carries you back into the light, sparking insight and inspiration to recharge every life.  UNTOLD LIVE! promises to be an experience you will never forget.

2018 will prove to be very special to the WSA as it celebrates it’s fifth birthday. In those five years, we have done our best to listen and stand behind the pride of being a volunteer organization created BY survivors and FOR survivors. That’s why we are excited about our new partnerships with Igntya and Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment. The UNTOLD movement is a culmination of the survivor voice of strength over the years.   As we expand our mission, we hope we can continue to touch lives with our event gatherings and new online media partnership. We thank everyone who has supported us, loved us and encouraged us over the past five years. We are so excited to see partnerships expand in 2018, new ones formed and survivor voices grow worldwide through this incredible movement by our own survivors called UNTOLD.
