Happy Mother’s Day from Women Survivors Alliance and NFD! Whether you are a biological mother, step-mother, adoptive mother, fur baby mother, “honorary mother,” or HAVE a mother, it’s a great time to celebrate women and women’s health. National Women’s Health Week is an observance led by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office on Women’s Health. The goal of National Women’s Health Week is to empower women to make their health a priority, and throughout the week, women are encouraged to take steps to improve their health. 2017 marks the 18th annual National Women’s Health Week and it launches on Mother’s Day, May 14, and is celebrated through May 20, 2017.
What steps can I take for better health?
For better health, you can:
- Schedule a visit to see a doctor or nurse for a well-woman visit (checkup) and preventive screenings.
- Start Moving and get active.
- Eat healthy.
- Be aware of your mental health, including getting adequate sleep and managing stress.
- Avoid unhealthy behaviors, including smoking, texting while driving, and not wearing a seat belt or bicycle helmet.
Please take care of YOU and your health as we celebrate mothers – and ALL women – during 2017. Take a few minutes to read some of the ways you can be healthier.
