Is your favorite color blue? Well, March is about to go blue!  Every March since 2000, March has been designated for  colorectal cancer awareness.    President Clinton officially dedicated March as National Colon Cancer Awareness Month in 2000 and it has been going strong ever since. .  According to the Colon Cancer Alliance (CCA) March has become a recognized rallying opportunity “for thousands of patients, survivors, caregivers and advocates throughout the country join together to spread colon cancer awareness by wearing blue, holding fundraising and education events, talking to friends and family about screening and so much more.”  What a great opportunity to mobilize people to make a difference in this cancer that impacts so many.

If you don’t know what colon cancer is, who gets it, how you can be screened, or who should be screened, find out more and wear your blue not just on the first Friday of this month as part of Dress in Blue Day, but throughout the month of March to raise awareness of colon cancer.   Events are going on throughout the country which you can find out about on the CCA website.  You can dress in blue, share videos and messages via social media, join Blue Hope Nation on Facebook or participate in one of the live events such as a walk or run in your boxers and briefs – whichever you choose! we can all do our part to share the importance of screening and by learning the facts about colon cancer.

It’s o.k. to be blue this March!   Be educated, be empowered, and spread the word!
